SPORT HAWKE’S BAY – ACTIVE LIVING ADVISOR (WAIROA) - 20 hours

Help local people take positive steps towards healthier, more active lives

Sport Hawke’s Bay is looking for a motivated and community-minded Active Living Advisor to join our team in Wairoa.

This is a locally based role focused on finding local solutions for local clients. You will work alongside individuals and whānau, supporting them to identify achievable wellbeing goals, overcome barriers to being active and connect with activities, providers and opportunities available within their own community.

Through the Green Prescription programme, you will provide personalised support, encouragement and coaching to help clients make sustainable changes that improve their health and wellbeing. You will also contribute to wider physical activity initiatives delivered by Sport Hawke’s Bay.

About the role

As our Active Living Advisor in Wairoa, you will:

  • Receive and respond to Green Prescription referrals from health professionals.
  • Meet with clients by phone, online and face-to-face.
  • Help clients set realistic physical activity and wellbeing goals.
  • Develop personalised activity plans based on each person’s needs, interests and abilities.
  • Provide ongoing encouragement, coaching and motivation.
  • Deliver workshops or physical activity sessions in Wairoa.
  • Connect clients with local programmes, facilities, providers and activities.
  • Build strong relationships with community organisations, recreation providers, gyms, iwi and Māori health providers, local government and wellbeing services.
  • Maintain accurate client information and monitor progress and outcomes.

Central to the role will be understanding the strengths, challenges and opportunities within Wairoa. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, you will work with clients and community partners to identify solutions that are accessible, culturally responsive and appropriate for the local community.

About you

You will be someone who genuinely enjoys working with people and can build trusted relationships across a diverse community.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • An ability to connect with people from different backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Knowledge of behaviour change, coaching or motivational interviewing.
  • A relevant qualification in health, exercise prescription or a related area.
  • Good organisation and time-management skills.
  • The confidence to work independently while remaining connected to a wider regional team.
  • A commitment to culturally responsive practice and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Confidence using digital tools, client-management systems and Microsoft 365.
  • A willingness to continue learning and contribute ideas that improve outcomes for clients.

Strong knowledge of Wairoa, its people, providers and community networks would be a real advantage.

Why join Sport Hawke’s Bay?
