FEMALES ON THE MOVE
What is Females on the Move?
Founded in 2017, Females on the Move has rapidly expanded, empowering young women across Hawke’s Bay to participate in a variety of physical activities in diverse environments. Our mission is to inspire a lifelong passion for physical activity among females in the Hawke’s Bay community by listening to their needs through dedicated focus groups.
At Sport Hawke’s Bay, we prioritise amplifying student voices. We collaborate closely with schools, communities, and regional sports organisations to ensure their perspectives are heard and acted upon.
We are committed to building strong, engaged communities that work together to create lasting events and opportunities. Our programmes place females at the centre, helping them develop essential life skills such as empowerment, decision-making, teamwork, and confidence.
It's My Move
It’s My Move is a project led by Sport NZ to help more girls and young women get active and involved. Sometimes things like worrying about what others think, feeling unsure, or being afraid to try can make it hard to join in sports and activities.
These barriers lead many girls and young women to participate less than boys, and sometimes to stop sooner. Understanding why this happens is key to creating lasting change.
With the help of sports groups and organisations around Aotearoa, It’s My Move wants to make it easier for girls and young women to find activities they enjoy. We also help parents, caregivers, and coaches learn how to support and encourage you, so you can feel confident and have fun being active.
